The Mayor of Dolton, Illinois, Tiffany Henyard, is currently under scrutiny by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for alleged misuse of her authority.

The accusations include closing down businesses that did not contribute to her political campaign, misappropriation of charitable funds, and personal use of taxpayer money. These allegations have led some residents to label her as the "worst mayor in America."

In a recent development, Henyard is said to have vetoed a probe into her financial conduct, a move that was unanimously approved by The Dolton Village Board. The investigation was to look into claims that she had misused funds for extravagant expenses and an exorbitant $1 million security detail.

A group of Dolton trustees is now considering hiring former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, despite her controversial tenure marked by rampant crime and violence, to investigate Henyard at a rate of $400 per hour.

The most recent investigation into Henyard's conduct revolves around a taxpayer-funded trip to Las Vegas in May 2023. The trip has been marred by allegations of serious misconduct and claims that Henyard retaliated against a staff member and a police officer who reported alleged sexual misconduct by a village trustee.

Fox 32 reports that the trip, which was initially promoted as an opportunity for economic development, involved Henyard, Village Trustees, and personnel from Dolton and Thornton Township. However, upon Henyard's return, there was allegedly a significant lack of communication about any potential economic benefits or events from the trip.

The Board of Trustees also recently became aware of sexual assault allegations made by a former Village employee against one of Dolton's elected trustees during the Las Vegas trip. It is claimed that Henyard and her administration have tried to hide these allegations and their reporting, raising concerns about transparency and accountability within the village.

The Las Vegas Police Department has initiated a criminal investigation into the allegations. However, Henyard's administration claims to have conducted an "independent" investigation but has refused to share the results with the Village Board.

In addition to the investigation into the trip, the Board is also seeking clarity on financial matters over the past year that Henyard has declined to provide information for, including banking records and accounting details.
