Nella Domenici, daughter of New Mexico's last Republican senator, has set a new fundraising record for a GOP Senate candidate in the traditionally Democratic-leaning state.

Domenici's campaign announced on Friday that she raised over $1.25 million from mid-January to the end of March, marking the first quarter of 2024 fundraising. These figures were initially shared with Fox News Digital.

Domenici, the presumptive GOP nominee, is the daughter of former long-serving Republican Senator Pete Domenici. She is aiming to unseat Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich, who is seeking a third six-year term representing New Mexico in the Senate in the November elections.

The $1.25 million raised by Domenici is being hailed as the largest fundraising total for any Republican U.S. Senate candidate in New Mexico's history for the first quarter of an election year. Domenici's campaign also highlighted that she received donations from over 1,100 individuals.

In a statement, Domenici expressed her gratitude for the "incredible outpouring of broad support in such a short amount of time," adding that "New Mexico is truly ready for a change." She criticized career politicians like Heinrich, accusing them of prioritizing "extreme progressive ideology" over problem-solving and the best interests of New Mexicans.

Heinrich has not yet announced his first-quarter fundraising. According to Federal Election Commission filings, he raised nearly $4.5 million last year and ended 2023 with approximately $3.5 million cash-on-hand in his campaign coffers.

Pete Domenici, Nella's father, served in the Senate for 36 years before retiring in 2009. His legacy provides the younger Domenici with a strong political brand and significant name recognition in New Mexico.

With her extensive experience in the finance industry at Bridgewater Associates, Credit Suisse, and Citadel Investment Group, Domenici has a broad fundraising network. She announced at the launch of her campaign that she would make an initial investment of half a million dollars.

Domenici also has the support of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, the campaign arm of the Senate GOP, which encouraged her to run.

However, New Mexico, once a general election battleground, has recently leaned left and is no longer considered a crucial swing state. President Biden won the state by 10 points in 2020, and it has been 15 years since a Republican held a Senate seat in the state. Heinrich won re-election in 2018, a blue-wave cycle, by over 30 points.
