In a sudden turn of events, Representative Lauren Boebert (R-CO) was rushed into emergency surgery on Tuesday night to remove a blood clot.

She was subsequently diagnosed with May-Thurner syndrome, a rare and potentially fatal disorder that disrupts blood flow.

This unexpected development could potentially jeopardize the Republican Party's majority in the House of Representatives.

Boebert, who is currently in the running for the Republican nomination for Colorado's 4th District seat in the upcoming November general election, was admitted to UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland. She had been experiencing severe swelling in her upper left leg, which led to the discovery of her condition. Boebert had announced her intention to leave Colorado's Third Congressional District to run in the Fourth in December.

The Boebert campaign released a statement on Facebook detailing the congresswoman's condition. "Yesterday afternoon, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert was admitted to UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland after experiencing severe swelling in her upper left leg," the statement read. "After undergoing a CT Scan, doctors found an acute blood clot and diagnosed her with May-Thurner Syndrome, which is a rare condition that disrupts blood flow."

The statement further explained that the exact cause of May-Thurner syndrome remains unknown, but factors such as dehydration, travel, and extended periods of sitting have been identified as potential triggers. Women aged between 20 and 45 who have given birth are also more likely to develop this condition.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, May-Thurner syndrome can make it difficult for blood to return to the heart, potentially leading to blood pooling in the legs and the formation of a blood clot. If a clot breaks off and travels to the lungs, it can result in a pulmonary embolism, a life-threatening medical emergency.

In a statement, Boebert expressed her gratitude to the medical team at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies. "I want to thank Dr. Rebecca Bade and the entire team at UCHealth Medical Center of the Rockies for their great care and providing helpful insight on my recent diagnosis," said Boebert. "I’m looking forward to making a full recovery and getting back to Congress to continue fighting for Colorado.”

The timeline for Boebert's return to Washington, DC, remains uncertain. This comes at a critical time as Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) is set to resign from Congress on April 19, which would reduce the GOP majority to a single seat. If Boebert's absence extends beyond this date, the GOP could lose its majority in the House.

This precarious situation has been exacerbated by the early departures of Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Ken Buck (R-CO), and Gallagher, along with the ousting of George Santos (R-NY) by the GOP House.
