Former Senator Al Franken has taken on a guest host role on “The Daily Show” for the week.

CBS News reports that starting Monday night, Franken will take over the host’s chair for a week while Trevor Noah leaves. The former Senator was a comedian before he got involved in politics, and now it looks like he has again taken on his role as a comedian.

The show is broadcast on Comedy Central for those looking to tune in.

Franken spoke on “CBS Mornings” and recognized that this could be a hectic news week as he is set to become the temporary host. The biggest news story of the week could be the potential indictment of former President Donald Trump. There is a lot of buzz in the air right now that Trump might be indicted this week. When asked, as a joke, if Franken would attend any of the potential protests that might take place concerning Trump’s arrest, Franken stated: ‘I’m a Proud Boy, and he told us to ‘stand back and stand by.’”

CBS News reports that Franken was a cast member on “Saturday Night Live” as a comedian for 15 years. He later became an Air America host, where he spoke more about liberal politics. Then he later became a best-seller author. He was a Senator from Minnesota for nine years before sexual misconduct allegations forced Franken to resign in 2018.

Franken stated that he was somewhat nervous about taking over the “Daily Show” for at least a week. However, he is eager to get back to talking about the news and feels that this is an excellent way for him. CBS reports that he said:

“I haven’t really done this in this format in a while,” he said. “And they’ve had, I think, eight or nine other hosts since Trevor stepped back. And they’ve been terrific. And each tries to make it his own or her own.”

Franken will have South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham on the show on Monday. Franken said this about it:

“People would ask me, like, ‘Who’s the funniest senator?’ I say, ‘Lindsey.’ He’s funny,” and “When he was running for president in 2016, he was doing badly against Trump. I was in the Senate bathroom with him. I said, ‘Lindsey, if I were a Republican, I’d vote for you.’ And without hesitation, he said, ‘That’s my problem.’”

These are the types of things that Franken hopes will make the week that he is on the show great.
