In an opinion piece for Politico, Juleanna Glover makes the case that comedian Jon Stewart needs to run for president in 2024.

Glover declares that if Joe Biden doesn't run for re-election in the following presidential race then "Jon Stewart should run on the Democratic ticket instead. Yes, that’s right: Jon Stewart."

Glover touts Stewart's positions on climate change, abortion, and race as all advantages for him if he were to run.

In March, Stewart announced, "America has always prioritized white comfort over black survival" as part of a pro-reparations statement in an episode of his AppleTV show "The Problem with Jon Stewart."

"So he’s clearly engaged enough for the job," Glover states. She then explains his "superpower" as "his internationally renowned sense of humor, and his ability to create a sense of direct connection with the people he’s talking to. It’s the shared sense of collective outrage among the non-insurrectionist-supporting America."

Stewart is presently connected with people through his new woke show, which failed 80 percent of spectators after the first episode.

Glover's argument for Stewart's run centers on the idea that "the 2024 presidential race is guaranteed to be a carnival" and "perhaps the most important reason for the Democrats to consider Stewart is who he’d be running against."

The piece spends little time discarding former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron Desantis, and former Vice President Mike Pence to declare that "the most popular, and most dangerous Republican candidate would be Tucker Carlson."

Glover states that "Carlson’s bloviating fetishization of nationalist and autocratic tendencies seems like a boil that Stewart’s comic umbrage could most effectively lance."

Stewart was questioned regarding running for office in a recent appearance on the podcast "Sway" with New York Times columnist Kara Swisher. Stewart said, "Oh, God. How do you not?" and told listeners it was an option he felt compelled to explore.

At this year's 23rd annual Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, in which Jon Stewart was the award recipient, many celebrities like Pete Davidson and Steve Colbert announced that Stewart should run for office. Dave Chappelle stated, "I wish that you would run for president, but I imagine that would be hard for a coke guy to do." Davidson continued that Stewart “is such an exceptional person that he really could be president tomorrow, but is too smart to do so.” And Colbert is worth quoting at length, because it’s pretty funny:

“Of course Jon is a brilliant comedian. But his close friends know that Jon’s true passion is recreational anxiety. It’s his superpower. Instead of being bitten by a radioactive spider, Jon was bitten by a clinically depressed squirrel. But that, that is why he is the perfect person to publicly worry about the future of our democracy. Why so many people think he should run for president. And I get it. He’s got a lot in common with Bill Clinton. A keen intelligence. The Veganism. Rapid Aging.”
