A record number of people say moral values in the United States are "poor" and worsening.

According to new data from Gallup, the public perception of morality in America is worse than it’s ever been.

Over 50% of respondents rated the nation’s moral values as “poor,” surpassing the previous record by just 1 percentage point. Just 1% of respondents rated the country’s morality as “excellent,” while 12% announced it is “good,” and 37% said it is “only fair.”

A whopping 78% state the state of moral values in the nation is getting worse.

Although the country’s opinion of its morality has always been negative — an average of 43% have rated morals in the U.S. as “poor” since 2002 — the number of “poor” ratings is higher than ever before.

Seventy-two percent of Republicans gave the nation a “poor” rating, the highest number since the poll began. Democrats were more favorable of the country’s moral values, with just 36% agreeing with the “poor” rating. Forty-four percent of independents further agreed with the characterization.

Despite the discrepancy between Republicans and Democrats, they agree that morality is getting worse. Even 68% of Democrats announced the outlook for moral values in the U.S. is bleak.

The top problem people cited is a lack of consideration for others. Although, in the past few years, racism has grown to be a top reason. Democrats and Independents were roughly twice as likely as Republicans to say racism is a basis for “poor” moral values in the nation.

Over $207,000 in state funds has been paid to Drag Queen Story Hour NYC, a state chapter, according to the New York Post. According to the chapter’s website, at least 49 drag programs have been organized at 34 public elementary, middle, and high schools.

“I can’t believe this. I am shocked,” announced State Assembly candidate Helen Qiu, who is a mother to an 11-year-old. “I would be furious if he was exposed without my consent. This is not part of the curriculum.”

The total funding includes $50,000 from New York State’s Council on the Arts, alongside $157,000 in funding from the city’s departments of Education, Cultural Affairs, Youth and Community Development, and even the Department of Transportation.

At least one City Council member is considering taking action against the funding.

“I am considering pulling funding to any school in my district that is implementing Drag Queen Story Hour,” Republican City Council member Vickie Paladino said. “We are taking hundreds of thousands of dollars out of the pockets of hardworking New York taxpayers … to fund a program teaching little children about their gender fluidity? Not. On. My. Watch.”
