Despite Biden pivoting left to placate her and many of her Squad's demands, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) refused to endorse President Joe Biden for 2024 when asked on Sunday.

The liberal congresswoman instead shifted the attention to the 2022 midterm elections and Democratic efforts to maintain control of Congress.

"I'm focused on winning this majority right now," Ocasio-Cortez told CNN's, Dana Bash. "And preserving a majority this year in 2022. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it."

When prompted about her answer not being a "yes," Ocasio-Cortez diverted her focus to the future. "I think we should endorse it when we get to it. But I believe the president has been doing a good job so far, and, you know, should he run again, we'll take a look at it," she said.

The talk followed a conversation about Ocasio-Cortez's choice to endorse New York state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi in her attempt to oust Rep. Sean Maloney (D-NY) from the 18th Congressional District.

The endorsement was due to Biaggi’s ability to "excite the Democratic base" and help turn out young people and a "multi-class, multiracial coalition," Ocasio-Cortez said.

When asked about what sort of information she is making with her rejection of Maloney, who leads the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Ocasio-Cortez noted her desire to see a "generational shift" in Congress and more Millennials elected.

Ocasio-Cortez was also avoiding questions regarding endorsing Biden in the 2020 election cycle.

The New York representative announced in April 2020 that she had not endorsed Biden but would still vote for him in November. Ocasio-Cortez had previously given her endorsement to Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) before he dropped out of the presidential primary contest.

“If the question is, can Biden win? I think Biden has the potential to win a general election,” said Ocasio-Cortez, who served as a top surrogate for Bernie Sanders. “Whether he can offer deeper structural changes that get us to a healthier place, I don't necessarily know if he's going to move us forward. But I think people can see him as stopping the bleeding.”

Ocasio-Cortez also elaborated about the COVID-19 crisis and how she thinks it’s already reshaping American politics. Her own congressional district is in the Bronx and Queens — two of the top three counties in the United States for positive Coronavirus cases and deaths — and the House freshman has been a sole voice in speaking out against corporate giveaways and inadequate help for families and local governments.

“It felt like once the racial data came out that showed that this was disproportionately impacting working-class people and black and brown people, it was almost like within days a lot of those ambitions just fell,” Ocasio-Cortez said of the initial push for a worker-centered response to the crisis. “But when we didn't know who it was going to impact when all of us felt vulnerable, we were ready to change.”
