Paxton, who was supported by former President Donald Trump, only secured 42% of the vote during the March primary, short of the 50% needed to secure the nomination and forcing him into a runoff against Bush, the next highest vote-getter, with 22%, in March.
Paxton has been outspoken and condemning Critical Race Theory, Left-wing gender doctrine in schools, and mask and vaccine mandates. He has filed and won dozens of lawsuits against the Biden Administration’s policies.

“The Biden Administration is so dramatically wrong,” Paxton told the Washington Examiner in late March. “That’s why the President is losing — he’s wrong on the law.”
Bush, the son of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, said if he were attorney general, he would not seek these kinds of lawsuits with the same energy as his opponent.

“My opponent is busy suing dozens and dozens of school districts on a variety of other issues, whether it’s mask mandates and vaccination requirements. I’m a different type of lawyer. I want to avoid litigation at all costs,” Bush said at an event in May.

Paxton has pulled up some lawsuits, including a seven-year-old securities fraud charge from a 2015 indictment. The case has seen minimal movement over the years and didn’t harm his first reelection bid in 2018.
Paxton is not backing down after being put on notice for violating “Twitter rules about hateful conduct” following a series of tweets stating that those born with “one X and one Y chromosome” are not women but men.

Paxton’s first tweet followed Assistant Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine, a biological man, being named one of USA Today’s “Women of the Year” this past week.
The attorney general also tweeted his endorsement of Friday to Emma Weyant, the collegiate swimmer who lost to transgender NCAA winner Lia Thomas.

“This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about hateful conduct,” Twitter wrote in a warning filter on Paxton’s tweets. “However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.”

“This whole insane episode represents a two-pronged attack from the Left — both of which I’m vigorously fighting against,” Paxton wrote. “First is the Left’s war against human biology, and especially against women. Second is their weaponization of Big Tech against Conservative voices.”
