Former Vice President Mike Pence's address in Loudoun County, Va., is not tied to the campaign of Virginia GOP gubernatorial candidate Glenn Youngkin.

Pence is supposed to deliver comments in Loudon County Thursday focused on "educational freedom," a topic that is primarily defined in Virginia's race for governor. However, a Youngkin campaign spokesperson told Fox News that the former vice president's event in the state is not related to their campaign.

The former vice president has already delivered two separate policy addresses on U.S.-China relations, and law enforcement and public safety.

The Youngkin campaign's distancing from Pence comes as Democratic Virginia gubernatorial nominee Terry McAuliffe has repeatedly tried to tie his Republican opponent to former President Donald Trump, going so far as to publish an ad that compared Youngkin and Trump's positions on pandemic limitations.

Youngkin has distanced himself from the former president, stating in a debate last month that the results of the 2020 presidential election were "certifiably fair" and contained no "material fraud."

But Youngkin has further called for an audit of voting machines used in the 2020 election, while Trump has endorsed his bid to lead the state.

Last week, Youngkin called for an investigation into handling two sexual assault allegations in two Loudoun County schools this year.

Pence's educational freedom speech will take place less than a week before the gubernatorial election, in a county that has grown to be one of the epicenters of protests against schools boards on matters like critical race theory, COVID-19 limitations, and transgender policies.

In the past, Pence has been a vocal critic of critical race theory, comparing it to "state-sanctioned racism."

"Critical race theory teaches children as young as kindergarten to be ashamed of their skin color. It represents a full-throated assault aimed at the heart of the American experiment," Pence announced throughout an event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

"It is nothing short of state-sponsored and state-sanctioned racism. Our party must ensure that critical race theory is expelled from our schools, our military, and our public institutions," he continued.

Democrats have dismissed the conservative outcry over the issues as a "dog whistle" and have said the outrage has been drummed up by Republican operatives.

Critical race theory was developed in the 1970s and 1980s by several American legal scholars who argued racism is rooted in the nation's founding and that systemic racism continues to harm the opportunities and treatment of people of color at all levels of society today.
