The 81-year-old Democrat demurred when CNN 'State of the Union' host Jake Tapper asked during an interview whether she would run again for the Congressional seat that she has held since 1987.
“I do want to ask about your own future in Congress. Are you going to run for re-election?” Tapper asked.

The California Democrat has been mum about her future in Congress and whether she would seek the Speaker's gavel if Democrats retain their majority in the 2022 midterm elections.
“Oh, you think I’m going to make an announcement right here and now?” she responded.

“You’re going to run for re-election, though, yes?” Tapper pressed. “Why would I tell you that now?” Pelosi asked. “Probably, I would have that conversation with my family first, if you don’t mind.”

Pelosi, who has led her party in the chamber since 2003, narrowly won re-election as Speaker in a 216-209 vote in January. Her current term, her fourth as Speaker, is predicted to be her last as she said in 2018 that she would only seek a fourth and final term if she had the support of two-thirds of her caucus.

Meanwhile, the future of the Democrats’ majority in the House is in question as the GOP needs a net gain of five seats in the 2022 midterms to regain control of the chamber after losing the majority in the 2018 midterms for the first time in eight years.

CNN reports that confidantes of the 81-year-old speaker reject any rumors she might quit before the end of this Congress, saying doing so would only embolden Republicans and undercut her ability to raise millions to save her party's imperiled majority. She has yet to say if she will mount a re-election bid next year, though her campaign continues to raise millions in case she runs for the seat she's held since 1987.
