Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is supposed to sign a bill that declares all religious services "essential" in the state of Florida.

Senate Bill 254, which passed through the state senate in January, states that an emergency declaration "may not directly or indirectly prohibit a religious institution from conducting regular religious services or activities."

Although, the government will be able to stop religious services if all businesses are directed to be closed and just if an emergency declaration applies "to all entities in the affected jurisdiction," the bill reads.

SB 254 was presented through the state legislature after religious institutions were regarded as "non-essential" throughout the United States during the coronavirus pandemic.

The sponsor of the bill, Republican state Senator Jason Brodeur, announced that the bill will prevent future bans on places of worship under a state of emergency.

"It applies to all emergency orders that would come in. It would basically say if Publix is open, so is your place of worship," Brodeur announced. "What it doesn't seek to do is what we've seen in some of the other states, where churches, synagogues and mosques were singled out for congregated activities."

Through an executive order in 2020, DeSantis designated all religious services in the state of Florida "essential" after different states like Washington, New York, and California shuttered places of worship.

The Republican Governor of Arizona Doug Ducey signed a comparable bill in April which considered all religious services essential in emergencies.

Back in May 2021, DeSantis' (R-FL) office declared that a new executive order has been put into effect, ending the legal validity of any and all local COVID restrictions.

"The bill ensures that neither the state or local governments can close businesses or keep kids out of in-personal instruction unless they satisfy a demanding and continuous justification," announced Gov. DeSantis.

According to local outlet Bay News 9, the order immediately suspended all local emergency ordinances, and provided him the ability to override future ones.

A previous executive order enacted by DeSantis completely banned the use of any of the dubbed "vaccine passports" by both government and private institutions within the state of Florida.

FL State House Speaker Chris Sprowls had high words of praise for Gov. DeSantis, mentioning, as Gov. DeSantis had before, the extreme contrast with the situation in New York State and California, and that in Florida in the present day.
