The former governor was introduced by ex-State Senator Ruben Diaz Sr., who faced controversy in February 2019 after proclaiming that the City Council was 'controlled by the homosexual community.'

In his speech, Cuomo railed against cancel culture - which he referred to as a 'social death penalty' that affected both him and his brother - and against the extremist factions of both the Democratic and Republican parties. He even went so far as to say, 'cancel the cancel culture!'

He specifically targeted the 'defund the police' movement and New York's controversial bail reform laws and said they needed to be fixed.
Even though Cuomo kicked off his speech by stating "I don't speak to you as a politician," he very much discussed the current state of politics in both New York and across America.

"Nobody talks, there's no discussion, there's no dialogue," Cuomo said. "But everyone has an opinion. They equate decibel level to intelligence and righteousness. A pluralistic democracy such as ours does not function in this environment."
He went on to say that, much like the Tea Party's grip on the Republican Party a decade ago, the new 'woke Democrats' were now controlling his own party.

"The woke Democrats and the noisy Democrats are driving this extremism," he said. "We are now in a place where the tail is wagging the dog."

He proceeded then to cancel culture, which he compared to extreme sentences and argues has ruined both himself and his family's lives.
"One manifestation is the so-called cancel culture," Cuomo said. "They do it through social media, they do it quickly and effectively, they demonize anyone who doesn't agree with their position. It's a social death penalty and it can happen at any time. My family paid the price for cancelling the culture."
