According to Forbes, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Chief Medical Adviser to the President, is supposed to get the largest federal retirement package in U.S. history at $350,000 per year.

Fauci is the highest paid federal employee, according to auditors at OpenTheBooks.com.

As director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Fauci made $434,312 in 2020, up from $417,608 in 2019.

Fauci made a total of $1.252 million from 2018 to 2020 in salary as a federal employee.

"I'm the head of an institute that actually played a major role in the development of the vaccines that have now saved millions of lives from COVID-19," Fauci told CBS.

"So, I'm going to keep doing that until this COVID-19 outbreak is in the rearview mirror, regardless of what anybody says about me, or wants to lie and create crazy fabrications because of political motivations."

From 2004 through 2007, Fauci got almost a 68% pay increase, from $200,000 to $335,000 a year.

Meanwhile, on Monday, U.S. health officials loosened restrictions for Americans who catch the coronavirus and are asymptomatic.

The new guidance suggests that a person with COVID-19 should go into isolation for five days, rather than the previously recommended 10. After five days, if a person does not have symptoms, they can return to normal activities while wearing a mask — including at home with others — for at least five more days. People still have to proceed and isolate themselves while they undergo symptoms and can start their five days of masking when they no longer have symptoms.

The CDC announced that the guidelines have been updated to reflect increasing evidence that suggests transmission of COVID-19 often takes place one to two days before the onset of symptoms and throughout the two to three days after.

The CDC changed the recommendations for those who are exposed to COVID. The organization announced people who were wholly vaccinated and were exposed could skip quarantine. Now just those who got booster shots can skip quarantine if they wear masks in all settings for at least 10 days.

"The reason is that with the sheer volume of new cases that we are having and that we expect to continue with Omicron, one of the things we want to be careful of is that we don't have so many people out," Fauci told CNN's Jim Acosta. "I mean, obviously if you have symptoms you should not be out, but if you are asymptomatic and you are infected we want to get people back to jobs — particularly those with essential jobs to keep our society running smoothly."
