Patrisse Cullors, who self-identifies as a "trained Marxist," has recently been appointed as a commissioner with the Los Angeles County Arts Commission.

Cullors, one of the co-founders of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) organization, was lately caught up in a scandal about her multiple luxury properties and wound up stepping down as an executive director of BLM in May 2021.

"Cullors will serve on behalf of the 2 million residents of the Second District," announced LA County Supervisor Holly J Mitchell (D) in a press release.

"Patrisse has demonstrated her understanding of this and has experience using various mediums of art and community engagement to inspire and create change. Patrisse shares my commitment to equity and justice and will use her creativity to make arts and culture more accessible for the residents throughout the Second District," Cullors went on.

According to the Daily Wire, Cullors announced:

"I'm thrilled to continue to weave my roles as artist and organizer, where I can continue to support Black creatives. I have a ton of to-dos on my list. I won't share them now. Just stay put and watch as they unfold."

"I truly believe Black creatives are the backbone of our society and community. We are often under-represented and under-resourced. But I plan on advocating for the full support of Black creatives across my beautiful-*ss city!"

Cullors's domain includes the historically black sections of Watts and Compton and Koreatown and Inglewood.

Cullors has been under fire for her lavish spending on real estate, with critics panning an avowed marxist owning millions in property. Others wondered where she got the money from.

Cullors described the scrutiny over her $3 million empire of four homes as a 'racist and sexist' attack by the 'right-wing media' in an interview with Marc Lamont Hill for Black News Tonight on Thursday.

The 37-year-old, who set up BLM with Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi back in 2013, broke down in tears as she revealed she has 'spent the last week with security' after her homes were first pictured in the media.

She also tried to deflect criticism from some on the left who have questioned whether her ownership of four homes contradicts her ideology as a 'trained Marxist' as she said she has invested in the properties to provide for her family and sees her wealth 'as my family's money, as well.'

Her explanation comes after it emerged she has accrued four homes worth a combined total of around $3 million in recent years, sparking questions about her source of income.

Black Lives Matter raked in around $90 million in donations last year but does not release a full accounting of its spending. The organization said Cullors has been paid $120,000 since 2013 but has not received any payment since 2019.

Meanwhile, much of the discussion of her homes has been banned on Twitter and Facebook.
