In an unexpected turn of events, a pro-Palestinian student protest at a University campus was disrupted by an unidentified individual who played the American National Anthem during the students' rest hours.

The incident, captured in a video shared by Kassy Akiva on social media platform X, occurred near the student encampment, where a speaker was set up at a closed gate.

The student protest, dubbed "Harvard Out of Occupied Palestine" or "HOOP," was ordered to cease by Harvard Interim President Alan Garber. The directive, issued via a community-wide email, was met with defiance by the protesting students, who responded through an Instagram post. The post read, "As Rafah is under attack, Harvard President Alan Garber sends a community-wide email notifying the threat of suspension for students protesting the genocide."

Harvard Law student Lea H. Kayali voiced her concerns about the alleged "abuse" the student protestors were facing from the university administration. She stated, "The Harvard Out of Occupied Palestine coalition is proud of the discipline with which its student protestors have conducted themselves in the face of daily intimidation and abuse. But here at Harvard, the administration has left the student movement with few options to seek the change they advocate for."

The nature of the alleged "abuse" remains unclear, but if it refers to incidents such as the playing of the National Anthem, it raises questions about the protestors' allegiance and the legitimacy of their grievances.

Despite the seriousness of the issues at hand, the protest camp has been criticized for its lack of organization and sustainability. A report by The Daily Beast painted a picture of a dwindling protest, with consumed snack supplies, weather-beaten tents, and a lack of sanitary facilities. The report also mentioned the presence of buckets of Tidy Cats Instant Action Scented Clumping Clay Cat Litter, despite the absence of any cats in the vicinity.
