Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told reporters Saturday that the Afghan people have a right to have their government acknowledged by the U.S., Reuters reported.
"Our message to America is, if unrecognition continues, Afghan problems continue, it is the problem of the region and could turn into a problem for the world," Mujahid said.
He told reporters that the "issues which caused" the 20-year war in Afghanistan could have been settled through discussions and "political compromise," Reuters stressed.

Meanwhile, a U.S. government watchdog on Friday accused the State Department and Pentagon of suppressing information regarding the collapse of Afghanistan's former government and military. "The full picture of what happened in August will only be revealed if the information that the departments of defense and state have restricted from the public is made available," said John Sopko, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR). A State Department spokesperson said SIGAR has the authority to restore the reports.

The Taliban quickly overthrew Afghanistan in mid-August as the U.S. and allied forces were leaving.
The U.S. officially departed from Afghanistan on Aug. 31, ending the nation's longest war. The group revealed its interim government in early September.

The international community had repeatedly proposed concerns about whether the Taliban would reign the same way they did when they last held power, despite the Taliban insisting they would not.

The U.S. agreed earlier this month to grant humanitarian aid to Afghanistan following negotiations in Qatar but repeated that it would not recognize the Taliban as the Afghan government.

No country, including the U.S., has since recognized the Taliban's government, though some nations have sought some levels of engagement with the radical organization.
The last visit was by Turkmen Foreign Minister Rasit Meredow, in Kabul on Saturday. The two sides talked about the rapid fulfillment of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, Mujahid said earlier on Twitter.

China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, met Taliban officials in Qatar earlier this week. Mujahid said on Saturday that China had promised to finance transport infrastructure and give Kabul's exports access to Chinese markets via neighboring Pakistan.

Mujahid also elaborated on the issues facing border crossings, especially with Pakistan, which has seen regular closures and protests recently. The crossings are vital for landlocked Afghanistan.
He said serious talks on the matter were held when Pakistan's foreign minister had traveled to Kabul last week.
