For decades Macedonia has been on the cusp of joining the EU, an event that has taken far too long to achieve.
Macedonians have been looking to this future event for too long, but do they deserve it? To be part of the EU demands the highest level of standards for every citizen be they a beggar on the streets or the Prime Minister Zoran Zaev. As the head of this great nation Zaev must administer justice so that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. He has failed to do so.
Jordan Kamcev is being persecuted by the government, for being a pillar of the community. Kamcev was described as the richest person in Macedonia by Forbes magazine in 2016. But instead of gaining more wealth and power he became a philanthropist and a pillar of the community. While Zaev has been accused of buying votes and letting 14 people burn to their deaths in the field hospital, Kamcev built a state-of-the-art hospital to treat all the people of Macedonia.

For multiple years the government has been after Kamcev, and time and time again he has been exonerated. The government’s own special prosecutor who was appointed by Zaev, not only was able to build a case against him but was found guilty of extortion. Kamcev has exposed multiple corrupt occurrences against the government.

Boki-13 a famed entertainer that turned businessman was found guilty of allying himself with the special prosecutor’s office and tried to extort 1.5 million from Kamcev. Yet when he came to court to face Kamcev again he was under house arrest. While Kamcev who has not been found guilty, was escorted from prison by the police. The guilty are free while the innocent are in cuffs!

Boki-13 is a friend of Zaev, he was an accomplice of the special prosecutor’s office, she was appointed by Zaev. Yet Kamcev is in the Skopje prison where he undergoes constant humiliation. He has been tortured and denied access to the outside world.
Even when he was issued a temporary passport, left the country 56 times, and came back each time, he has stood as man can against his accusers. His health is deteriorating, and he has been denied medical treatment.

This treatment by the government shows that Macedonia does not deserve to be in the EU. These are the acts of the corrupt and desperate. EU member states have demanded that Macedonia change its name and hide its symbols. Nationalist claim that this is dishonorable of this once great nation, home of one of History's greatest figures, Alexander The Great. Yet where is their shame in letting their own rot because of a disgraceful government?
