Each United States President is required to create a library in their name after leaving office, as mandated by the Presidential Libraries Act of 1955. The documents, archives, and other items are available to the public, allowing them to learn more about the presidents and their terms in office. Furthermore, the libraries also serve a research purpose, allowing historians and other researchers to gain a better understanding of the President's time in office. The libraries also often have classrooms, auditoriums, and other areas for public events and educational programs. Finally, the libraries enable citizens to better connect with the President’s time in office, allowing them to understand the context and legacy they've left behind.
