Introduction

Being the President of the United States of America is an incredibly difficult role, and the responsibilities come with plenty of rules and regulations that must be followed. Those who have held the office before, too, must abide by certain laws and protocols, some of which may be surprising! Former Presidents are required to keep their correspondence with foreign leaders confidential, report their financial records, and must even adhere to a strict set of ethical standards. They must also refrain from making public comments on political matters while in office and must even go so far as to ask permission to attend certain events. Although former Presidents are free to pursue their personal goals, they must remain mindful of their past positions and the tremendous influence they still wield.
