50 Movies That Wouldn’t Be Made In Today’s Liberal Hollywood

Soul Man (1986)

The movie Soul Man, released in 1986, is a comedic tale about a white student who poses as an African American to receive a scholarship to Harvard Law School. While the movie has a moral to teach about racism, it also relies on crude stereotypes and offensive jokes to get its point across. In today's society, this type of humor and plot would simply not be accepted, and it would be seen as highly insensitive and offensive. Furthermore, the movie perpetuates the idea of "passing for white," which is a practice rooted in the deeply oppressive history of racism in the United States and should not be revisited in a comedic fashion. As such, Soul Man is a relic of a different time and would not be made today.
