Bizarre Historical Photos That Influenced America

Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Filming Lion

Perhaps the most famous animal in all of Hollywood is Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s mascot, Leo the Lion. As iconic as he is, Leo is not a single lion but many different ones used throughout MGM’s history. Of all of these lions, only one of them had the name “Leo.” MGM used Leo the Lion as their mascot for over a hundred years until 2021, when they changed Leo into a photo-realistic CGI model. The CGI makeover wasn’t the only time MGM replaced Leo the Lion. In 1968, a stylized graphic was used in place of Leo for only two films, “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “The Subject Was Roses.”
