Rare Photos Of The World's Longest Reigning Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II

Education

On January 20th, 1936, King George V died, and things began to change drastically for Princess Elizabeth immediately afterward. Despite the Yorks' hope that Elizabeth would one day attend a public school to further her education and socialization, she continued to be educated at home. When her uncle King Edward VIII took the throne, he decided it would not be proper to educate a princess with commoners. Elizabeth, therefore, continued her studies at home. The decision made by Edward VIII has been a source of much speculation ever since. To avoid press intrusion into the lives of the Royal Family, he may have been motivated by his own experience of being the source of national gossip over his relationship with socialite Wallis Simpson, even before her marital status was revealed.
