Rare Photos Of The World's Longest Reigning Monarch, Queen Elizabeth II

Born Royal

Elizabeth was born during George V's reign, and her father, the Duke of York, was the second son. The Duke and Duchess of York were determined to educate Princess Elizabeth about her rights and responsibilities from an early age, even as they traveled to Australia to open its new Commonwealth Parliament. As a result, Elizabeth spent most of her first year with Clara Knight, her nanny, and her grandparents, King George V and Queen Mary. This was not a negative thing, as Elizabeth grew close to her grandparents, who reported her every new tooth and word to her jet-setting parents.
