William Shakespeare

William Shakespeare is frequently considered the world's greatest writer, a peerless poet and dramatist who rose from humble beginnings to achieve renown. However, did Shakespeare truly compose the works attributed to him? Some of his works are thought to have been co-authored, but some scholars and fellow writers are not convinced that Shakespeare wrote any of his sonnets or plays or that 'Shakespeare' was a pseudonym for the real writer. Because of the difficult issues surrounding social class and education, the Shakespeare authorship question has been around for decades, with many possible theories as to who the 'Bard of Avon' was, or wasn't. Those who argue that Shakespeare was not the real author, known as anti-Stratfordians, cite a lack of evidence in their favor. According to anti-Stratfordians, Shakespeare may have received only a local primary school education, didn't attend university, and therefore wouldn't have studied the languages, grammar, and extensive vocabularies found in his work, which includes more than 3,000 words. They raise the point that both of Shakespeare's parents were probably illiterate, as well as it appears his surviving children were, which leads them to wonder if a renowned scholar would neglect to educate his children.
