In a surprising turn of events, former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson was denied entry at a local polling station in South Oxfordshire on Thursday due to his failure to present an acceptable form of photo identification.

This incident occurred during the local elections for a police and crime commissioner for the Thames Valley, as reported by Sky News.

The refusal to allow Johnson to vote was a direct consequence of the Elections Act of 2022, introduced by his own Conservative Party government. This legislation, which mandates the presentation of photo ID at polling stations, has been a subject of controversy, with critics arguing it could potentially disenfranchise disabled and minority ethnic Brits.

The UK Electoral Commission has reportedly discovered that as many as 14,000 individuals were unable to vote in the local elections last May due to lack of acceptable identification.

In a similar incident, 48-year-old British Army veteran Adam Diver was turned away from a polling station in Fleetwood, Lancashire, after his veterans' ID card was rejected. "I will be fighting for this 'special ID' to be 'more' formal," Diver tweeted, expressing his disappointment. His tweet caught the attention of the House of Commons, prompting an apology from Veterans Minister Johnny Mercer.

Johnson, however, was able to vote after returning with an acceptable form of ID, according to the BBC. Despite the initial hiccup, Johnson remained optimistic, urging his followers to "Vote Conservative today!" His tweet, however, was met with a wave of criticism.

A spokesperson confirmed that Johnson did vote Conservative, but did not deny the earlier incident at the polling station, as reported by Sky News.
