Rahamim 'Rami' Shy, a former senior policy adviser to ex-US President Barack Obama, has been arrested and charged with child sex crimes in the United Kingdom, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The 46-year-old New Jersey resident is accused of arranging a child sex offense. Court documents also reveal charges of possession of indecent images of children and possession of a prohibited image of a child.

Shy, a US citizen, was apprehended by the Bedfordshire Police in late February and is currently detained at the HMP Bedford prison. He was officially charged during a virtual court appearance at the Luton Crown Court last Friday. Shy will continue to be held in custody until his next court hearing in June. He was not required to enter a plea during his recent court appearance, according to the news outlet.

Shy's political career includes working with former Democrat President Barack Obama and former Democrat Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He held a senior position at the US Treasury Department from 2008 to 2014, where he advised officials on counter-terrorism financing and assisted other nations in imposing sanctions on hostile regimes. He also served as a key adviser to the late Richard Holbrooke, the US ambassador to the last three Democratic presidents.
