When asked in an interview with Joe Rogan, Zuckerberg expressed that the FBI approached Facebook to put the team on high alert, saying: “You should be on high alert.”
The message from the FBI was that: “We thought that there was a lot of Russian propaganda in the 2016 election. We have it on notice that, basically, there’s about to be some kind of dump that’s similar to that. So just be vigilant.”
In the Rogan interview, Zuckerberg also quickly pointed out that Facebook’s approach differed significantly from Twitter’s. He insisted that Facebook users were “still allowed to share” posts reporting on the Hunter Biden laptop even though their “third-party fact-checking program” was looking into whether it was misinformation.

When Rogan asked if there was any regret about suppressing a story that turned out to be factual, Zuckerberg replied, “yeah, yeah!”
However, he continued to defend Facebook’s practices claiming that its process was “pretty reasonable” compared to Twitter’s complete censorship blackout of the topic.

After the presidential elections, several news organizations, including The New York Times, The Washington Post, NBC News, and Politico, have verified the authenticity of the laptop.

Zuckerberg’s admissions come on the heels of recent whistleblowers’ allegations that FBI officials told agents not to investigate Hunter Biden’s laptop for months due to concerns that it would impact the 2020 election. Johnson claims FBI leadership intentionally slowed the Hunter Biden laptop investigation based on orders from “local FBI leadership.”
Senate Judiciary ranking member Chuck Grassley said whistleblower allegations reveal a “deeply rooted political infection” within the FBI.
