Former psychology professor and author Jordan Peterson stood firm by his remarks on transgender actor Elliot Page.

Peterson arrived at a virtual interview that was posted on YouTube Friday, repeating his stance on Page, a biological female who identifies as a man, and the actor's transition. The author was recently suspended from Twitter over the remarks he shared on the platform.

"See, I would've left Ellen Page alone if she hadn't been parading her new abs in a fashion magazine," Peterson said.

In 2017, Peterson opposed Canada's C-16 bill, which added transgender pronouns to the country's Human Rights Act. He said during the interview that he had done research on transgender issues and the mess it tends to provoke in teenagers.

"For every one person we hypothetically save, we doom 1,000 more as a consequence of confusion and social contagion," Peterson said.

Peterson once "dead-named" Page in a tweet, citing the actor as "Ellen" and pointed out Page's recent mastectomy. Twitter said Peterson violated its rules of hateful conduct. The rule reads: "You may not promote violence against, threaten, or harass other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or serious disease."

The social media platform said it would reinstate Peterson if he agreed to delete the tweet, which is no longer visible on the platform. Peterson refused.

Actress Bette Midler is explaining a tweet that many people criticized as being transphobic.

Midler called on women to oppose gender-neutralizing terms that would “erase” them and their bodily rights in a tweet Monday. She is now walking back the comment.

“PEOPLE OF THE WORLD!” Midler wrote, noting that her previous comments were in response to a New York Times opinion piece. “There was no intention of anything exclusionary or transphobic in what I said; it wasn’t about that.”

The actress also said her remarks were meant to address women’s rights, adding that she has “fought for marginalized people for as long as I can remember.”

Midler admitted she may lose some fans over the remarks but reiterated her call to unite over not allowing rights to slip away. Midler’s comments follow criticism for being “anti-trans.”

“No,” drag queen and LGBT rights activist Panti Bliss-Cabrera wrote in response. “Don’t fall for the anti-trans panic fake nonsense. No one is erasing women. In a few small healthcare cases where appropriate they are using trans inclusive language. That’s all.”

Author Julie DiCaro also tweeted, “With all due respect, Bette, trans-inclusive language doesn't take anything away from us.”
