A new survey from Monmouth University polled Americans regarding their perceptions of the Biden administration and the present state of affairs. It found that almost 90 percent of Americans believe the nation is "on the wrong track."

Throughout a press briefing on Thursday, FOX News White House correspondent Peter Doocy grilled Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on the poll's conclusions.

"Why do you think it is that 88 percent of people in this country polled by Monmouth think the country is on the wrong track?" Doocy questioned.

"I'll say this," Jean-Pierre answered, "the president understands what the American people are going through."

She announced that Biden understands the people's frustrations with high gas prices, and went on to blame it on "Putin's tax hike," and the war in Ukraine.

"The food cost has skyrocketed," she went on, "and that's why the president has done everything that he can to blunt those high prices."

"That's why he's tapped into the strategic petroleum reserve ... that's why he's doing the home-grown bio-fuels, the Ethanol-15, making that available this summer."

"We have a plan," Jean-Pierre declared, before launching into an unprovoked assault on Republicans.

According to the survey, the Biden administration's attempts to "understand" what the American people are going through is not enough. 58 percent of respondents announced they disapprove of the president's performance, with most mentioning economic woes like inflation.

More than a half announced they felt the Biden administration was having a negative impact on the biggest matters facing the country.

The poll further discovered that 42 percent of Americans are "struggling" to stay where they are financially, almost double the number from 2021.

"If the President thinks the Congress must act immediately to end this epidemic of gun violence. Is he going to bring any of the key players from Capitol Hill to the beach with him tonight?" he asked.

Karine Jean-Pierre didn’t know how to respond to the question at first, yet Doocy continued that throughout the 2020 campaign season, candidate Biden claimed he promised to get things done in Congress.

"He does, he does. I mean he’s beaten the gun lobby before…." the press secretary begins to say.

"But why not invite these lawmakers who haven’t beat the gun lobby, and say ‘this is how it’s done?’" Doocy responds.

"We saw he did that in the Senate during his Congress days, that he beat the gun lobby," Jean-Pierre answers back.

Doocy agreed with Jean-Pierre regarding Biden’s experience. She laughed that the Fox News reporter was asking if he wanted to go to the beach too, to which Doocy made a quip about the weather.
