Meghan McCain calls on President Biden to remove Anthony Fauci as the country's top infectious disease expert for "inconsistent messaging" on COVID-19.

Comment about her own access to a vaccine proved controversial, earning the co-host of ABC's The View scorn on social media.

"The fact that Dr. Fauci is going on CNN, and he can't tell me that if I get the vaccine, if I'll be able to have dinner with my family ... it's terribly inconsistent messaging," McCain said, later adding, "I'm over Dr. Fauci. I think we need to have more people giving more opinions, and honestly, quite frankly, I think the Biden administration should remove him and put someone else in place that maybe does understand science."

McCain said that she would be enthusiastic to get the vaccine, but she, as a high-profile talk show host, is unsure of the protocol.

"The fact that I, Meghan McCain, co-host of The View, I don’t know when or how I will be able to get a vaccine because the rollout for my age range and my health is so nebulous, I have no idea when and how I can get it," she stressed. "I want to get it. If you call me at 3 o'clock in the morning, I will go any place at any time to get it. I want to be responsible and, obviously, wait my turn, but this rollout has been a disaster."

That drew backlash from those who argued that her comments about Fauci revealed ignorance. "Fire Meghan McCain and replace her with someone who’s actually informed," wrote Shannon Watts, founder of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

John Haltiwanger, senior politics reporter for Business Insider, argued that McCain "clearly does not understand" that "figur[ing] out the logistics surround the distribution of vaccines" is "not [Fauci's] job."

Others seized on McCain's comments about not having easy access to the vaccine, deeming the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain entitled.

"This is the Conservative Entitlement Mind in action," wrote sports and political commentator Keith Olbermann. "She demands preferential treatment, prefers to whine rather than research, and blames experts."

"I hope someone is fanning and perhaps feeding individual grapes to Meghan McCain right now as co-host of The View," Actor Brian Tyler Cohen employed sarcasm in his characterization of McCain's remarks.

McCain appeared to address the unfolding criticism in a tweet posted after the show's broadcast, sticking to her original remarks.

"Many of you can keep worshiping at the altar of Fauchi. I’m not a phony - i will not go on tv and lie saying one thing privately and another on air," she wrote. "This is my opinion. We need someone else in charge of coronavirus messaging and leadership."

The talk show co-host later hit back following CNN's Chris Cuomo quizzical reaction to McCain. She criticized Cuomo's brother, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, for the mounting scandal in which the governor was found to have undercounted COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes.
