CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner is demanding congressional action after President Donald Trump sent an extraordinary letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, accusing Norway of pushing him toward acquiring Greenland.

According to Mediaite, Reiner took to X on Monday to argue that the episode raises serious questions about presidential capacity and oversight. “This letter, and the fact that the President directed that it be distributed to other European countries, should trigger a bipartisan congressional inquiry into presidential fitness,” he wrote, urging lawmakers of both parties to step in rather than leave such matters to unelected bureaucrats or media commentators.

Reiner, who previously served as cardiologist to former Vice President Dick Cheney, has recently criticized Trump’s personal health disclosures, particularly his admission of taking more aspirin than typically recommended. He said Trump’s explanation for the dosage “makes no sense,” a remark that critics have seized upon to fuel broader narratives about instability, even as supporters argue such medical commentary is being weaponized for political ends.

The controversy intensified after PBS published the full text of Trump’s letter, in which the president linked Norway’s supposed role in denying him a Nobel Peace Prize to his stance on Greenland. “Dear Jonas: Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” Trump wrote, before arguing that “Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a ‘right of ownership’ anyway?”

Trump continued by asserting American strategic interests and his record on the alliance. “I have done more for NATO than any other person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT,” he declared, framing the issue as one of U.S. national security and Western deterrence against hostile powers.

Prime Minister Støre responded curtly, backing Denmark and Greenland while distancing his government from the Nobel process that Trump referenced. “As regards the Nobel Peace Prize, I have clearly explained, including to president Trump what is well known, the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee and not the Norwegian Government,” Støre said, implicitly rejecting the notion that Oslo had denied Trump the honor.

Since confirmation that the letter was authentic, opponents have flooded social media with speculation about Trump’s mental state, with some activists calling on Congress to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

At the same time, Norway has aligned with France, Germany, the UK, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Finland in denouncing Trump’s push to acquire Greenland from Denmark for U.S. “national security,” a stance that critics frame as reckless while many conservatives see it as a hard-nosed, if unconventional, assertion of American strategic interests in the Arctic.
