Rioters in Minneapolis were caught on camera looting a federal law enforcement vehicle Wednesday night, seizing what appeared to be a rifle and ammunition as chaos again overtook a major American city.

According to Western Journal, independent journalist Nick Sortor recorded the brazen theft and posted the footage online, documenting how the mob forced open what he described as a weapons locker in a federal vehicle.

Sortor wrote, “Minneapolis rioters successfully BROKE OPEN a weapons locker in a federal vehicle and STOLE A RIFLE and ammunition before fleeing. I captured the thief’s face and license plate on the getaway vehicle.”

In the video, one rioter is seen taking what appears to be a tactical rifle bag from the trunk as others rummage through the vehicle. A woman nearby can be heard saying, “There’s some bullets,” underscoring the seriousness of the security breach and the potential threat to public safety.

The journalist later posted on X, “I have forwarded this to the top levels of the FBI.” His decision to immediately alert federal authorities stands in stark contrast to the lawlessness on display in the streets, where rioters operated with apparent impunity until officers arrived.

As law enforcement in riot gear eventually moved in, the rioters scattered, abandoning the area they had just vandalized. The New York Post reported that multiple federal vehicles were damaged after the Department of Homeland Security disclosed that an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer had shot an illegal immigrant during an attempted apprehension.

According to DHS, the ICE agent fired in self-defense after the illegal immigrant and two accomplices ambushed him and began beating him with a shovel. Rather than condemning the violent assault on a federal officer, agitators turned their anger on federal property, using the incident as a pretext for further unrest.

Photos from the scene showed at least one federal vehicle defaced with red spray paint amid a debris-strewn block. The graffiti included the messages “F*** ICE” and “Only good agent is a dead one,” according to the Post, language that reflects an increasingly radical anti-law-enforcement sentiment on the left.

ICE responded publicly, drawing a clear line between legitimate expression and criminal violence. The agency wrote on social media, “Peaceful protests do not result in the destruction of federal vehicles and theft of federal property.”

President Donald Trump, signaling that federal patience is wearing thin, announced Thursday that he is prepared to invoke the Insurrection Act if Minnesota officials fail to restore order. The president posted on Truth Social, “If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of ICE, who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT, which many Presidents have done before me, and quickly put an end to the travesty that is taking place in that once great State.”

The Insurrection Act of 1807 authorizes the President to deploy the U.S. military, including federalizing a state’s National Guard, to quell rebellion and enforce federal law. As violent mobs loot federal vehicles, steal weapons, and openly threaten federal agents, the question now is whether state leaders will finally act decisively or force the White House to use the full extent of its constitutional authority to restore law and order.
