The co-hosts of ABC's talk show, "The View," are known for their liberal perspectives and often controversial comments.

Recently, they have come under fire for their criticism of President Donald Trump's proposed $5,000 baby bonus, with some even labeling the proposal as racist.

According to Western Journal, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson appeared on Fox News' "The Will Cain Show" to address these criticisms. He dismissed the comments made by "The View" co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin, stating, “‘The View’ is an absurd program. Every creative idea that the president and this White House come up with, they pan immediately.”

Trump's proposal, confirmed on Tuesday, aims to provide $5,000 to mothers for each new child. The White House sees this as a potential solution to the country's declining birth rates. However, Goldberg mocked the president's proposal, questioning its practicality and suggesting that the bonus would be significantly reduced after taxes.

Goldberg stated, “I’m incredibly insulted by this because clearly they don’t know how women’s bodies work, and they don’t know what it costs to raise a child or just have a child — $5,000? I don’t know what $5,000 is supposed to do!” She further added, “And it’s not even $5,000 because you have to cut it in half because you have to pay taxes on it. So, they’re offering you $2,500 to have a baby! Now, don’t forget about all the stuff they’ve cut.”

Hostin, on the other hand, suggested that the Trump administration's proposal was racially motivated. She cited data showing slight increases in birth rates among Hispanic and Asian mothers and insinuated that the administration was primarily interested in boosting the birth rate among white mothers.

This claim was met with pushback from co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin, who asked, “But have they said that anywhere? I mean, I feel like we have to be fair.” Despite this, co-host Joy Behar echoed Hostin's insinuation, stating, “White children. I’ll say it.”

The co-hosts' comments have sparked controversy, with critics accusing them of race-baiting and hypocrisy. They argue that such rhetoric only serves to alienate their fellow liberals and reinforce the perception of "The View" as a platform for divisive and biased commentary.

Despite the backlash, the show continues to air, providing a platform for its co-hosts to voice their opinions, however controversial they may be. Critics argue that this only serves to expose the co-hosts' biases and could potentially benefit the president by highlighting the opposition's divisive tactics.

The debate surrounding the proposed baby bonus underscores the polarized nature of political discourse in the United States. It also raises questions about the role of talk shows like "The View" in shaping public opinion and the extent to which their commentary reflects or influences the broader political landscape.

As the controversy continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the co-hosts of "The View" will respond to the criticism and whether their commentary will have any impact on the public's perception of the proposed baby bonus.
