In a surprising turn of events, Ellen DeGeneres, the well-known comedienne and former talk show host, has decided to leave the United States for England.

This move comes in response to President Donald Trump's return to the White House. DeGeneres, alongside her partner Portia de Rossi, has settled into a rural English lifestyle, having purchased an expansive $18 million farmhouse in the picturesque Cotswolds region four months ago.

As reported by Breitbart, DeGeneres, who once held an impressive array of real estate in the U.S., recently sold her two-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Montecito, California. The property was listed for $4.9 million, according to People magazine. A representative from Riskin Partners Estate Group disclosed that the home attracted "multiple offers" and ultimately sold for approximately $300,000 above the asking price. This sale follows the couple's previous transaction in August 2024, when they sold their Santa Barbara County estate for a staggering $96 million to Singaporean tycoon Robert Friedland, as noted by the Wall Street Journal.

DeGeneres and de Rossi's decision to relocate to England is not an isolated incident among the elite. Many Hollywood LGBTQ stars and others are reportedly anxious about President Trump's administration, with some already having left the country or contemplating doing so. Kirsten Schaffer, executive director of Women in Film, expressed her concerns to TheWrap, stating, "It’s keeping me up at night [worrying] for myself and the wider community, especially the transgender community." She added that during Trump's previous term, "There were more guardrails last time: [Trump] didn’t have the House, Senate and judiciary."

Screenwriter Brent Hartinger, who departed the U.S. in 2017 following Trump's initial election, shared his perspective with TheWrap, predicting, "I think there will be a much bigger exodus from America this time around." This sentiment reflects a broader unease among certain segments of the population, who fear the implications of a Trump administration with greater control over the legislative and judicial branches.

While DeGeneres and de Rossi have found solace in the English countryside, their departure underscores a growing trend among those disenchanted with the current political climate in the United States.
