In a tragic turn of events, Jessica D. Aber, a former United States attorney, was discovered deceased in Virginia on Saturday morning, a mere two months after stepping down from her position.

Aber, aged 43, had served as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 2021 until her resignation on January 20, 2025. Her appointment came under the administration of President Joe Biden.

As reported by Fox News, the Alexandria Police Department (APD) issued a statement confirming Aber's passing. The department received a call at approximately 9:18 a.m. on Saturday regarding an "unresponsive woman." In accordance with standard procedures, an investigation is currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia has been tasked with determining the cause and manner of Aber's demise.

Aber's professional journey, as detailed in her Department of Justice biography, began with her graduation from William & Mary Law School in 2006. During her tenure as U.S. attorney, she led a team of around 300 prosecutors, civil litigators, and support staff across four divisions in Alexandria, Richmond, Norfolk, and Newport News. In her resignation statement, Aber expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve, stating, "I am deeply grateful to senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine and to President Biden for the opportunity to lead this office and to Attorney General Garland for his steadfast leadership."

Her successor, U.S. Attorney Erik S. Siebert, expressed his deep sorrow upon learning of Aber's untimely death. "She was unmatched as a leader, mentor and prosecutor, and she is simply irreplaceable as a human being," Siebert remarked. He further praised her professionalism and legal expertise, noting, "We remain in awe of how much she accomplished in her all-too-brief time in this world."
