James Johnston, an author, told USA Today that the transcript of the first conversation between President Lyndon Johnson and CIA Director John McCone following the 1963 assassination has not been made public. This document could potentially shed light on any involvement from Cuba in Kennedy's assassination, given Kennedy's well-known attempts to use the CIA to eliminate communist dictator Fidel Castro.
As reported by the Daily Mail, McCone has been previously accused of withholding 'incendiary' information from the Warren Commission, which was tasked with investigating the assassination. The concealed information pertains to plots to assassinate Castro, implicating the CIA in a conspiracy with the mafia. This omission prevented the Warren Commission from exploring the possibility of Oswald having accomplices in Cuba or elsewhere who sought JFK's death as retribution for the attempts on Castro's life.

McCone's alleged cover-up was deemed 'benign' as he, along with other top CIA officials, wanted the commission to focus on Lee Harvey Oswald, whom they firmly believed was the sole shooter. On Tuesday, following an order by President Donald Trump, over 63,000 pages of records related to the 1963 assassination of President Kennedy were released. Many of these documents were free of the redactions that have baffled historians for years and fueled conspiracy theories.

The US National Archives and Records Administration uploaded approximately 2,200 files containing these documents to its website. These files span decades and include typewritten reports and handwritten notes. They reveal details such as a top CIA agent claiming the deep state was responsible, Oswald being a 'poor shot,' and the Secret Service being warned of Kennedy's impending assassination in August, three months prior to the murder.

The release of these files took Trump's national security team by surprise, leading to a 24-hour scramble to assess security risks before publication. The release sparked a backlash from liberals who claimed it was a repeat of a similar drop by Joe Biden years ago, and from MAGA supporters who were frustrated that the pages still contained redactions and left questions unanswered. Experts have described the files as 'impenetrable.'
The National Archives has previously released the majority of its collection of over 6 million pages of records, photographs, motion pictures, sound recordings, and artifacts related to the assassination. Prior to Tuesday, it was estimated that 3,000 to 3,500 files were still unreleased, either wholly or partially. Just last month, the FBI announced the discovery of about 2,400 new records related to the assassination.

Jefferson Morley, vice president of the Mary Ferrell Foundation, a repository for files related to the assassination, described the release as 'an encouraging start.' He stated that much of the 'rampant overclassification of trivial information has been eliminated' from the documents. However, Morley also noted that Tuesday's release did not include two-thirds of the promised files, any of the recently discovered FBI files, or 500 Internal Revenue Service records.

Interest in the details of Kennedy’s assassination has remained high over the decades, with numerous conspiracy theories suggesting multiple shooters and involvement by the Soviet Union and the mafia. JFK was assassinated on November 22, 1963, during a visit to Dallas, when his motorcade was completing its parade route downtown and shots were fired from the Texas School Book Depository building.

Police arrested 24-year-old Lee Harvey Oswald, who had positioned himself in a sniper’s perch on the sixth floor. Two days later, nightclub owner Jack Ruby fatally shot Oswald during a jail transfer, sparking one of the earliest conspiracy theories - that Oswald had been killed to prevent him from revealing who had set him up.

A year after the assassination, the Warren Commission, established by President Johnson to investigate the incident, concluded that Oswald acted alone and that there was no evidence of a conspiracy. Despite this, alternative theories have continued to circulate over the decades. One of the most popular theories suggests a second gunman fired shots at JFK from a 'grassy knoll' to the right of his car as it passed by. However, no definitive proof of this claim has ever been presented.
