Texas Governor Greg Abbott has highlighted a significant reduction in illegal border crossings, attributing the change to the policies implemented by President Donald Trump.

Abbott noted that areas previously overwhelmed by thousands of illegal crossings under former President Joe Biden have now seen these numbers dwindle to single digits. "I was with some officials from El Paso last night, and they said that where there had been 3,000 people crossing the border, sometimes a day, just in El Paso, there were now nine — nine people a day," Abbott remarked during an interview on CNBC's "Squawk Box" with Joe Kernen.

As reported by Fox News, President Trump has taken decisive action to address what he terms Biden's border crisis. On his first day back in office, Trump initiated a series of measures aimed at curbing illegal immigration. These include resuming the construction of the border wall, encouraging illegal immigrants to "self-deport" through the CBP Home app, and invoking the Alien Enemies Act, which grants the president authority to detain or deport non-citizens.

Governor Abbott emphasized the stark contrast in the treatment of illegal immigrants under the current administration compared to the previous one. He stated that under Trump's leadership, the law is being strictly enforced. "The people who do make it across the border now, they are immediately arrested and then deported, and as a result, discouraging people from entering the border again," Abbott explained.

Reflecting on the past four years, Abbott criticized the previous administration's handling of immigration laws, which he claims led to a surge in illegal crossings and a rise in crime. "What began happening four years ago, of course, was a complete failure to enforce the immigration laws of the United States of America," he asserted.

Abbott further elaborated on the consequences, noting, "And as a result, we saw an all-time record number of people crossing the border illegally, more than 11 million people, including people who are known murderers, rapists and gang members and cartel members. And as a result, the crime across the country skyrocketed."

Abbott concluded by highlighting the dramatic shift in border security since Trump's return to office. "Now, in the immediate aftermath of the Trump election and Trump taking office, it’s gone from 11 million people across the border illegally to just a trickle, as in, just a handful of people," he stated. This change underscores the effectiveness of the current administration's immigration policies in restoring order and security at the nation's borders.
