In our latest publication, "Fat And Unhappy: How 'Body Positivity' Is Killing Us (and How to Save Yourself)," we delve into the predatory tactics of the food and pharmaceutical industries. These sectors have capitalized on the lack of knowledge and emotional vulnerabilities associated with obesity, reaping profits from a nation left in a state of chronic obesity, illness, and depression. Americans, in their quest for health and happiness, are left in the dark, a situation that corporate America is keen to perpetuate.
Kennedy, during his endorsement speech for then-Republican nominee Donald Trump in Phoenix, made a bold promise. "If I'm given the chance to fix the chronic disease crisis and reform our food production, I promise that within two years we will watch the chronic disease burden lift dramatically," he said. "We will make Americans healthy again."

Now, with his confirmation as HHS secretary, Kennedy has the opportunity to fulfill his promise. Here are five immediate actions we Kennedy can undertake.
NOT SO GREEN: GREENPEACE SMACKED WITH MEGA DAMAGES FINE!
The federal government, in 2011, replaced the outdated food pyramid with the "MyPlate" infographic. However, this new guide, unveiled by then-First Lady Michelle Obama as part of her campaign against childhood obesity, is not much better. As reported by The Federalist, Obama described the new chart as a "quick, simple reminder for all of us to be more mindful of the foods that we're eating." Despite this, the dietary guidelines still rely on outdated science, unfairly critical of low-carb, high-fat diets for metabolic health. The MyPlate model represented a missed opportunity to change the trajectory of childhood obesity and the nation's health at large.

The HHS, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, is tasked with updating the dietary guidelines every five years. This is an opportune moment for a radical re-examination of these guidelines by an administration committed to implementing the latest science without industry influence.

Federal food subsidies, which distort agricultural markets and serve as corporate handouts to the food industry, are another area of concern. Over 70% of American calories come from industrialized products subsidized by taxpayers. Kennedy should work towards reformulating food subsidies to promote healthier, superior foods such as organic animal agriculture over the mass production of corn and soy.

In a September op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, Kennedy pledged to address the issue of taxpayers subsidizing junk food manufacturers through food stamps. "Nine percent of all [Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program] funding goes to sweetened drinks, according to 2011 data," Kennedy wrote. "It's nonsensical for U.S. taxpayers to spend tens of billions of dollars subsidizing junk that harms the health of low-income Americans."

Kennedy also has direct control over the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) agency priorities. He expressed his desire to "devote half of research budgets from the NIH towards preventative, alternative and holistic approaches to health." As we highlighted in our book, the American health care system has morphed into a sick care system, with the food and pharmaceutical industries profiting more from treating disease symptoms rather than curing or preventing diseases. Kennedy has the chance to shift this paradigm, prioritizing the use of taxpayer dollars for disease prevention.

Another area of concern is the presence of harmful chemicals in American food, many of which have been banned in the European Union due to their high toxicity and detrimental health effects. Kennedy has a unique opportunity to pressure federal organizations responsible for food safety to re-examine additives that may be contaminating the food supply.
REPUBLICAN SENATORS BELIEVE HIDDEN SECRETS LIE BEHIND THIS FBI INVESTIGATION!
The pursuit of health and beauty doesn't have to be toxic. Melania Trump, with her international supermodel portfolio and sober lifestyle, is a beacon of body positivity in an era of corporate-sponsored gluttony. "The female form was once revered and honored in Western culture," she said, responding to controversy around her previous nude modeling. "I believed then, as I do now, that women should take pride in their bodies, not feel shame."

The first lady has pledged to launch a second crusade for childhood wellness. Any initiative to "Be Best," however, would be incomplete without an educational component on nutrition. A new campaign promoting exercise and healthy eating could drive a rebranded initiative aimed at eliminating childhood bullying. In a perfect world, no one should be subjected to derogatory comments about their appearance, but we're far more likely to end body shame when we eliminate anything to shame in the first place.
