In a recent segment on Fox News, Steve Hilton expressed high praise for President Donald Trump's diplomatic maneuvering with Mexico, describing the president as "at the height of his powers."

This accolade came during a discussion with Harris Faulkner, where the focus was on the agreement reached between Trump and Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to avert a potential trade conflict.

As reported by Mediaite, the agreement was announced on Monday morning, effectively postponing the imposition of substantial tariffs on Mexican imports. Faulkner, noting Trump's ongoing tariff strategies with Canada and China, speculated on whether these nations would engage in negotiations. "Well, we’ll see. The day is young and there’s a lot of talking going on," Faulkner remarked, adding, "Steve, people are moving and I think you have a pretty clear idea of why."

Hilton attributed this diplomatic success to Trump's assertive leadership style. "Because you have someone in the White House who is taking control, he’s in charge, he’s at the height of his powers, he’s commanding the American stage, the world stage," Hilton asserted. He criticized the widespread alarm over the tariffs, recalling a similar scenario during Trump's previous tenure. At that time, the U.S. faced issues not only with fentanyl but also with immigration and migrant caravans. Trump had announced a 25% tariff on Mexican goods via a tweet, prompting swift action from Mexico, including the deployment of troops to its southern border.

Hilton elaborated on Trump's unconventional approach to international relations, contrasting it with traditional diplomatic methods. "And it’s happened again. And here is someone who’s completely ripping up the playbook of how things operate in terms of relationships between countries," he stated. Drawing from his experience at 10 Downing Street, Hilton described the typical diplomatic process as slow and bureaucratic, involving lengthy negotiations and summits. In contrast, he praised Trump for his decisive and rapid action, particularly in addressing the fentanyl crisis, which Hilton noted Trump understands deeply due to his awareness of the communities most affected.

This latest development underscores Trump's commitment to swift and impactful decision-making, a hallmark of his administration that resonates with his supporters. The agreement with Mexico not only highlights his ability to navigate complex international issues but also reinforces his image as a leader who prioritizes American interests and security. As the situation unfolds, it remains to be seen how other nations will respond to Trump's assertive trade policies and whether similar agreements can be reached with Canada and China.
