The 67th Annual Grammy Awards unfolded as a grand celebration, spotlighting the achievements of music's most illustrious figures, including Beyoncé, Chappell Roan, and Kendrick Lamar.

However, the evening was not without its political undertones, as host Trevor Noah took the opportunity to address the nation's political landscape since President Donald Trump assumed office.

As reported by The Decider, Noah, the South African comedian, set the tone for the evening with a blend of humor and political commentary. "We’re going to make tonight special," he declared. "We’re going to try and have some fun, and we’re going to do something different. I don’t know if you know this, there’s been a few changes in Washington, so I’m going to enjoy tonight, because it may be my last time I get to host anything in this country." His monologue included jabs at the White House, touching on the tariffs imposed on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, as well as the administration's stringent immigration policies.

Noah's humor was not without controversy. Referencing Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter tour, he quipped, "I will say though, Beyoncé, there’s tariffs, we can’t afford a new tour. Maple syrup is about to be $50." His remarks on "illegal immigrants" also sparked backlash. During his opening monologue, he stated, "We’re going to be honoring the best in music as voted on by the 13,000 members of the Recording Academy," before adding, "And 20 million illegal immigrants." This comment drew criticism from viewers, including rapper Doechii, who was seen rolling her eyes at the joke.

The evening was not solely focused on political jests. Noah also poked fun at Colombian singer Shakira, who secured the award for Best Latin Pop Album, by calling her "the greatest thing out of Colombia that isn’t a class A felony." Despite the mixed reactions to his humor, Noah marked his fifth consecutive year as the host of the Grammy Awards.

In the realm of comedy, Noah was nominated for Best Comedy Album for his 2023 stand-up special, Where Was I? However, the accolade went to Dave Chappelle for his New Year’s Eve comedy special, The Dreamer.
