Vivek Ramaswamy, a former presidential contender, has raised alarms about the national security implications of a generation increasingly reliant on China, as American students continue to lag academically.

"75% of eighth graders are not math proficient according to international standards," Ramaswamy remarked on "The Ingraham Angle" recently. He further highlighted the concerning statistic that the United States ranks 26th out of 38 developed nations. "There are kids in other countries where English is not even their first language, out-beating our own students on English proficiency and I just think, speaking as an American and as a parent myself, that's unacceptable," he added.

As reported by Fox News, recent studies reveal a troubling decline in reading comprehension scores across the United States, with a mere 31% of fourth graders reading at their grade level, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress. In response, former President Donald Trump is advocating for educational reform, emphasizing school choice and the removal of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and gender ideology from classrooms. Ramaswamy, in his conversation with Fox News, emphasized the necessity for states to spearhead educational improvements by implementing merit-based pay for teachers, expanding school choice for families, and instilling American virtues in students.

Ramaswamy underscored the need for a cultural shift within the educational system, advocating for a focus on excellence rather than victimhood. "Lighting a fire under the feet of our educational culture, not teaching our kids to be victims, but to be victors, rewarding excellence instead of victimhood. I think it's a cultural change we need in our educational system, too, and if we don't fix it, China is going to be eating our lunch if they already aren't," he stated. He also stressed the importance of reverting to a "true American system" of education, which values competition and reduces the prevalence of participation trophies.

"This is a national security risk to the future of the United States if we have an entire generation that is dependent on China," Ramaswamy warned. He attributed part of the blame to the "woke left," but emphasized the broader need to inspire a generation to value achievement. "Hard work is an American virtue, and that doesn't start in college," he continued. "It doesn't even start in high school. It starts young and so, President Trump is leading the way with that culture, but it's going to take the states to really lift us up." Ramaswamy's call to action highlights the urgency of educational reform to safeguard America's future competitiveness and independence.
