Maine's Department of Education (DOE) has voiced its disapproval of President Donald Trump's executive order, which was enacted on his first day in office.

This order formally acknowledges the existence of only two genders and aims to protect spaces designated for women from male intrusion.

As reported by The Post Millennial, the Maine DOE clarified in a priority notice that the executive order, titled "Defending Women From Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government," is applicable solely to federal entities and does not override Maine's state laws or local school board policies. The department emphasized that local boards must comply with the Maine Human Rights Act (MHRA), underscoring that Trump's directive is limited to federal institutions.

The DOE's statement further asserted, "In Maine, we know that every student deserves a safe and equitable school environment." It highlighted that the state's non-discrimination laws, applicable to all educational institutions, are designed to ensure safety, equal opportunity, and fairness for all students. These laws are intended to create a secure learning atmosphere, deterring harassment and bullying that could jeopardize student safety and hinder educational engagement.

President Trump's order underscores the perceived dangers of gender ideology, particularly concerning the access of men to women-only spaces such as prisons and sports. "My Administration will defend women's rights and protect freedom of conscience by using clear and accurate language and policies that recognize women are biologically female, and men are biologically male," Trump declared.

The order restricts the housing of inmates based on gender identity and prohibits federal funding for medical procedures aimed at altering an inmate's appearance to match the opposite sex. Although schools were not directly addressed in the order, it nullifies all Biden-era policies supporting gender ideology and mandates that official documents reflect biological sex rather than gender identity, affirming the existence of only two genders.
