Following President Donald Trump's inauguration, where he swiftly enacted a series of executive orders, including those that recognized only two sexes and dismantled Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives within the federal government, Sharpton has responded with a bold move. His non-profit organization, the National Action Network, has declared a boycott against American companies that have abandoned their progressive policies.
As reported by the Daily Caller, Sharpton stated on MSNBC, "Donald Trump can’t make us spend money for companies that will not deal and commit and continue with diversity and equity and inclusion." He further elaborated, "What we said today is that these companies that are now saying they’re going to back up off of diversity and equity and inclusion, should therefore not have a diverse consumer base." This announcement comes amidst a backdrop of several major corporations, such as Tractor Supply Co., John Deere, Coors, Harley Davidson, Ford, Lowe’s, and McDonald’s, stepping away from DEI policies.
DEMOCRAT REP. CALLS TRUMP'S ADMINISTRATION “WHITE SUPREMACISTS”
January 23, 2025
While Sharpton's call to action may resonate with a segment of MSNBC's audience, it is unlikely to gain traction with the broader American public. The notion of boycotting beloved brands like Coors seems far-fetched, akin to asking a nun to forgo the rosary. The decline of DEI initiatives signals a shift away from the divisive identity politics that have characterized recent years.
