In a recent opinion editorial by Rusty Weiss for RedState, the author takes a critical look at the liberal reaction to the prospect of Donald Trump's return to the White House.

Weiss, with a tone of sarcasm, discusses an article published by Time Magazine, written by Angela Haupt, which offers advice to liberals on how to cope with Trump's inauguration.

Weiss begins by questioning the credibility of the "experts" consulted by Haupt, citing the recent COVID-19 crisis as a reason to be skeptical of their advice. He then moves on to quote Emiliana Simon-Thomas, a Science Director at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center (GGSC), who explains the thought process that leads liberals to seek coping mechanisms. "The thinking goes like this," Simon-Thomas states. "'Oh my God, if everything is going to have to be that way, and follow that thread, then we’re all going to die.'"

Weiss suggests that this mindset is a result of liberals being convinced that Trump is a dangerous figure, akin to Hitler. He then proceeds to mock the coping strategies suggested by Haupt's experts, which include "forest bathing" and dancing. Weiss quotes Julia Barzozza, a visual artist and sociology researcher in San Francisco, who advises readers to "Spend time in nature using your senses to connect with the environment." He also quotes Nicolle Osequeda, a therapist at Lincoln Park Therapy Group in Chicago, who suggests creating a mood-boosting playlist and dancing to relieve stress.

Weiss also quotes Simon-Thomas again, who suggests that those struggling with Inauguration Day should cry, but not alone. "While research suggests crying alone isn’t overly helpful, crying around others often leads to comfort, support, empathy, and stronger social bonds," Time writes.

Weiss concludes his piece by questioning if conservatives would resort to such measures if they were in a similar situation, implying that they would not. He suggests that the appropriate reaction would be a "slap back to reality." Weiss's opinion editorial is a critique of what he sees as the overreaction of liberals to Trump's potential return to the White House, and the coping mechanisms suggested by Haupt's experts.
