Former Special Counsel Jack Smith may have concluded his investigations into President-elect Donald Trump, but according to Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH), the saga is far from over.

Jordan, a member of the Oversight Committee, has indicated that the committee is not yet ready to close the book on Smith's inquiries.

As reported by Raw Story, following Trump's victory in the November elections, Jordan's committee issued a directive to the Justice Department. The committee instructed Smith to retain all records relating to two cases: the alleged interference in Trump's election and the case involving classified documents.

In a recent interview with CNN's Dana Bash, Jordan was asked about the possibility of summoning Smith to testify. Bash reminded Jordan of their conversation in November, when he had indicated that calling Smith to testify was a possibility. Now that Smith's report has been made public and he has stepped down, Bash queried whether Jordan would indeed call him to testify.

"We're still looking at all that," Jordan replied. He went on to express concerns about the conduct of one of Smith's lawyers, Jay Bratt. Jordan claimed that Bratt had approached a lawyer representing one of the defendants in the case, Walt Nauta, and made inappropriate comments. "We didn't know you were a Trump guy. We thought you were interested in this judge position," Jordan quoted Bratt as saying. Jordan emphasized that such behavior was unacceptable and warranted investigation.

Jordan also expressed his intention to scrutinize aspects of Smith's report that he felt were overlooked. He cited the presence of 26 confidential human sources on January 6th, 2021, with seventeen within restricted space and four inside the Capitol, as an example.

When Bash interjected to ask if Jordan was finished with the matter, he responded, "Yeah, because I think there are lots of answers, lots of questions that the American people want answers to."

Smith's report on the alleged election interference by Trump was made public last week. In the report, Smith stated, "Indeed, but for Mr. Trump’s election and imminent return to the presidency, the office assessed that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial.”

Republicans have consistently argued that the Department of Justice was unfairly used against Trump, accusing it of "election interference" by pursuing criminal charges against him. As the saga continues, it remains to be seen what further revelations will emerge.
