In a surprising turn of events, executives from Paramount Global are reportedly contemplating a settlement in a lawsuit initiated by President-elect Donald Trump.

The lawsuit, filed in October, accuses CBS News of manipulating a 60 Minutes interview with Vice President Kamala Harris during her 2024 Democratic presidential campaign. The Wall Street Journal reports that the lawsuit alleges CBS News of "election interference" by "deceptively doctoring" the interview.

As reported by The Post Millennial, the consideration to settle the lawsuit comes in light of a proposed merger between Paramount, the parent company of CBS, and Skydance Media. This merger requires approval from the forthcoming Trump administration. Insiders reveal that officials from both companies have acknowledged that Trump's dissatisfaction with CBS News could complicate the approval process. Consequently, they are willing to make necessary compromises, including settling the lawsuit, to facilitate the merger.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has jurisdiction over the transaction due to the transfer of broadcast TV licenses held by local CBS-owned stations. Brenden Carr, Trump's incoming FCC Chairman, had previously issued a warning to Paramount executives. His warning came during a reception following the taping of the Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C. last year. Carr's public statements have consistently echoed these sentiments.

The lawsuit, which seeks $10 billion in damages, accuses CBS of election interference by modifying parts of Harris's interview to favor her presidential campaign. Trump's legal team alleges that CBS aired two distinct versions of the interview, one on "60 Minutes" and another on "Face the Nation," each containing different responses about Israel. CBS has countered this claim, stating that a more condensed version of Harris's interview was broadcasted on "60 Minutes."

Trump's lawyers have described the issue as "CBS' partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion calculated to confuse, deceive, and mislead the public." They further asserted that the edits were an "attempt to tip the scales in favor of the Democratic Party as the heated 2024 Presidential Election - which President Trump is leading - approaches its conclusion."

This is not the first time the President-elect has taken legal action against a media outlet. ABC News recently settled a $15 million defamation lawsuit with Trump after he accused the network of falsely portraying him as a rapist. This series of events underscores the tense relationship between the incoming administration and the media, a dynamic that will undoubtedly shape the political landscape in the years to come.
