In the wake of the devastating wildfires in Southern California, Paul Gottfried, writing for The Blaze, has questioned why the majority of California's electorate, who voted for Gov. Gavin Newsom and Mayor Karen Bass, are not being held accountable for the disaster that has so far claimed 24 lives and destroyed over 12,000 structures.

Gottfried criticizes the state's leadership, stating that these "incompetent and ideologically crazed public officials" were elected into office despite their disregard for critical advice on forest fire prevention and their prioritization of LGBTQ criteria in selecting key public servants. He challenges Republican news commentators to be more direct in their criticism, asking why they can't tell California voters that they "brought this curse on themselves."

The author points out that California voters elected politicians who failed to take necessary precautions to prevent the current crisis. He highlights that Los Angeles voters were aware of Bass's "racialist and culturally radical positions" when they elected her as mayor in 2022. He also criticizes Newsom, who defeated conservative talk show host Larry Elder in the 2021 recall election, despite Elder's alternative stance on social, economic, and environmental policies.

Gottfried praises Elder for his honesty, stating that he blamed California voters and the "lying mainstream media" for the devastating fires. Elder argued that the media has protected politicians like Newsom and Bass for years, and now the majority who voted against him are suffering the consequences of their political choices.

The author also criticizes the wealthy "wokesters" in Pacific Palisades, who have seen their homes destroyed. He argues that these individuals contributed to the disastrous government ruining California with their votes, donations, and political campaigning. He suggests that some of the victims should be held accountable for their "stupid, perverse political actions."

Gottfried also criticizes Patrick Soon-Shiong, owner of the Los Angeles Times, for his paper's support of Bass and other "nutty leftist California politicians." He argues that Soon-Shiong bears significant blame for the recent events.

In his piece, Gottfried compares the situation in California to the firebombing of Dresden and other German cities during World War II. He argues that just as the Nazi government was held responsible for the destruction, so too should the "flaky maniacs and demagogues" who run California. He criticizes Republican politicians and their "conservative" media for failing to acknowledge this.

Gottfried concludes by questioning why Larry Elder is almost alone on the right in assigning blame for the situation in California. He reiterates his call for Republican news commentators to tell California voters that they "brought this curse on themselves" through their political choices.
