This dire prediction is contingent on the continued rule of the country's socialist dictator, Nicolás Maduro.
Despite the widespread conviction among Venezuelans and a significant portion of the global community that Maduro was defeated in the 2024 Venezuelan presidential election by opposition candidate Edmundo González Urrutia, Maduro was inaugurated for his third six-year term last Friday. This event has sparked a call to action from opposition leader María Corina Machado, who is rallying Venezuelan citizens to demand the rightful installation of González as the nation's president, setting the stage for a potential showdown with the Maduro regime.

In a conversation with The Wall Street Journal, Machado, who supporters claim was briefly abducted by authorities before being released following a protest on Thursday, cautioned that if Maduro's reign is not curtailed, the U.S. could face an influx of millions of Venezuelan migrants. "If Maduro remains, prepare yourself because we will see three, four or five million Venezuelans crossing the border," she warned.

Machado also underscored the importance of this issue for American safety in a conversation with Fox News Digital. "I want you to know how important it is also for the safety of the American people," she said. "We also are desperate to solve the migration problem in our region. We want those Venezuelans to come back in billions and voluntarily. And that will happen when they'll see there's a future in their country."

Meanwhile, according to Fox News Digital, José Gustavo Arocha, a former high-ranking Venezuelan military official who escaped persecution by the Maduro regime, warned that the U.S. could see an escalation in gang violence from the Maduro-aligned Tren de Aragua if Maduro remains in power. The Tren de Aragua, or "Train from Aragua," is a brutal international gang known for victimizing Venezuelan migrants and Americans alike, with a recent surge in violent crimes, including kidnapping, torture, and robbery.

Arocha, currently a senior fellow for the U.S.-based Center for a Secure Free Society, suggested that "if Maduro remains in power, he will likely use the Tren de Aragua as a tool for coercion and asymmetric tactics to achieve his objectives." He further explained that "Migration, weaponized with elements of the Tren de Aragua, will serve as leverage to seek the easing of economic sanctions and to gain legitimacy from the United States."

Alberto Ray, a security and risk strategist who assists with Machado's security, described the situation in Venezuela as "extremely explosive" to Fox News Digital. He warned that the continued rule of Maduro would inevitably lead to an increased presence of Tren de Aragua in the U.S. While he acknowledged that the majority of Venezuelan migrants are honest, hardworking individuals, he accused Maduro of "weaponizing" migration to instigate chaos and discord in the U.S.

Ray urged the U.S. to adopt a firm stance against Maduro, not only for the benefit of Venezuelans but also for the safety of Americans. He called on the U.S. government to shed light on the situation in Venezuela and to strictly enforce existing sanctions against Maduro and his government.

"The next 72 hours are going to be critical," Ray stated. He explained that Maduro's support base is limited to certain factions within the armed forces, and he is relying on these factions to maintain his presidency. "There are not two sides here. There is a huge Venezuelan side that is democratic, and they are looking and trying to get back democracy. And there is a tiny group that is in power that is desperately fighting to keep their privileges and to keep their position in power," he concluded.
