Carville, who shared the spotlight with Carlson on CNN's fiery Crossfire in the early 2000s, referred to the conservative media figure as an "old friend" during a recent interview on MSNBC's The Beat with Ari Melber.
In a discussion about some of Trump's most contentious selections, including Fox News host Pete Hegseth for defense secretary and Kash Patel for FBI director, Carville stated, "One person is driving this, I promise you, and it's Tucker Carlson," as reported by The Post Millennial.
Carlson, who once hosted a top-rated cable news show before his departure from Fox in 2023, has since risen to prominence as one of the internet's most popular commentators. He has crafted a show that delivers in-depth and captivating interviews, and his relationship with Trump has noticeably strengthened, with Carlson often seen accompanying the President-elect at high-profile events.

Carville expressed to Melber his belief that many of Trump's appointees are chosen with the intention of provoking liberal commentators. He said, "Look, I think they pick a lot of these people just to irritate people like us. The more angst they cause Rachel Maddow, the more likely they are to pick that person."

Carville speculated that some of Trump's nominees will withdraw, much like Rep. Matt Gaetz, Trump's initial choice for attorney general. However, he suggested that other "equally odious" choices would replace them. He pointed out that Patel's nomination to lead the FBI is "so outrageous and so out-of-character" because of his association of America's national police force with the Deep State. "That's why they do it," Carville asserted.

In his argument that Carlson is the mastermind behind Trump's selections, Carville seemed to mix up Kash Patel with Neil Patel, Carlson's business associate. Neil Patel and Carlson are the co-founders of the Daily Caller and the Tucker Carlson Network.

"Kash Patel was Tucker's business partner," Carville observed. "Tucker is 40 times more clever than Steve Bannon. He's 40 times more connected, he's also very connected with Elon Musk and everything else, and he’s a very bright man who should not be underrated."

Carville emphasized Carlson's influence, stating, "Tucker is very, very, very powerful and the Kash Patel pick proves that beyond any doubt at all."
Carville dismissed the idea that Steve Bannon was the one guiding Trump's cabinet nominations, insisting instead that it must be Carlson. He said, "Everything that I see is the same thing I heard in the green room in 2002." This assertion underscores the enduring influence of conservative voices like Carlson's in shaping the political landscape.
