As reported by Fox News, a harrowing video obtained by their digital team shows Thompson strolling down a New York City sidewalk, oblivious to the masked man trailing him. The man, clad in a black hooded jacket and carrying a backpack, suddenly raises a handgun and fires several shots at Thompson. At one point, the gun appears to jam, prompting the assailant to smack it on the side while advancing towards the fleeing victim.

After the shooting, the suspect reportedly mounted a bike and vanished into Central Park, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Initially, it was believed that the suspect had used a Citibike, which could have been tracked. However, the NYPD has since clarified that this was not the case.

The NYPD is hopeful that additional evidence left at the scene will aid in identifying the suspect. This includes a cellphone found in an alleyway near the hotel where the shooting took place and a cup discarded in a trash can at a nearby Starbucks.
